downtown lumberton

Our Downtown Plaza area is currently undergoing a renovation!  The old fountain/water feature has been removed and demolition of the area is making way for a new zero-depth water feature that will include disappearing fountain heads in a compass rose stamped concrete design.  The water heads will have colored lights that can be used to enhance an array of activities in our Plaza area.

The alleyway that connects 3rd Street and 4th Street behind the Carolina Civic Center is being turned into a beautiful Pedestrian Walkway with benches, planters, new pedestrian signage, lighting and brickpavers.  The dumpsters have been moved and now have a beautiful "gated" stall that house the dumpsters.  This alone was a welcome improvement to the site.

RDL is also making plans to put a beautiful new art sculpture in the Plaza that will tell the story of what we hope the newly renovated Plaza be all about.  We owe this thank you to local artist Melvin Morris for bringing his vision to reality.  Thank you Morris for your contribution to our community.

Projected ending date for both projects is the end of August.  All activities previously scheduled in the Plaza have either been moved to other locations or postponed until the first part of September.  A huge thank you to NC Commerce, Senator Danny Britt, the City of Lumberton and the Robeson County Health Dept for making these projects possible.  Together, no matter what the contribution, we as a team can do great things to make our community a better place to work, live and visit.
